Tom Smits
Tom Smits is senior manager at Amsterdam Bureau for Economics and has over 10 years of experience in economic research, consulting and project management. He has managed projects and worked in many different policy areas, such as competition, innovation, business policy, healthcare, social security, labour market, tourism and international economics.
Tom specializes in developing (financial)-economic models, including input-output models, for calculating economic effects (added value and employment) of government investments and policies. With these, he conducted various cost-benefit analyses and impact studies.
Tom is also skilled in the (econometric) analysis of microdata. He provided the econometric analyses for several policy evaluations. He also worked on the development of the distribution model for the participation budget of municipalities and on projects concerning international trade and trade agreements.
Tom studied civil engineering at Delft University of Technology and econometrics at the University of Amsterdam. Until October 2022, Tom worked as senior researcher at SEO Amsterdam Economics. Since November 2022, Tom has been senior manager at Amsterdam Bureau for Economics.
